Prices in Amsterdam continue to rise, and the affordability of apartments and houses within the ring road has declined even further. Whereas a year ago the average price per square meter was around €5,700, we are now approaching €6,500 per square meter. Of course, there are significant differences by neighborhood; prices in the Canal District have risen to €8,500, while in Amsterdam North, prices remain relatively affordable at €4,500 per square meter.
Amsterdam continues to attract new residents at a rapid pace. It’s a well-known phenomenon that, three years after graduation, the annual classes of students from Groningen meet up every week in Amsterdam because most of them live and work here. Amsterdam remains the city of choice for young, highly educated people.
The arrival of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is already having an impact. The first home seekers have already contacted us, and news reports indicate that many pharmaceutical companies are relocating their offices to Amsterdam.
